Renowned former foreign service officer Tom Hanson is set to address immediate crises and long-term challenges facing the United States at an upcoming event organized by Unlimited Learning. The event will take place at 1:30 p.m. on July 8 at Heartwood Senior Living in Crosby, Minnesota.
During the event, Hanson will provide an analysis of the latest developments in Ukraine, Gaza, and Taiwan, shedding light on the ongoing geopolitical conflicts in these regions. Additionally, he will delve into the fragmentation of the global economy and discuss the trade-offs between conflict and cooperation in addressing global challenges such as climate change, health, and artificial intelligence.
Hanson’s extensive diplomatic experience includes serving as a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State. Throughout his career, he held diplomatic postings in East Germany, France, Norway, the Soviet Union, Sweden, and the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. He also played a key role in the establishment of new U.S. embassies in Mongolia and Estonia.
Furthermore, Hanson has contributed to the Foreign Relations Committees of both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, and served as the director for NATO and European Affairs at the Atlantic Council of the United States. Currently, he holds the position of Diplomat in Residence at the Alworth Institute for International Affairs at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
