Team USA and NBC Partner with Google to Incorporate AI into Paris Olympics Coverage

Team USA and NBC have announced a major partnership with Google ahead of the Paris Olympics, incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into their coverage. The collaboration aims to enhance the viewing experience for fans of all ages by combining innovative technology with premium content.

The US Olympic & Paralympic Committee CEO, Sarah Hirshland, emphasized the significance of this alliance, stating that it goes beyond a mere sponsorship. She believes that working with Google and NBCUniversal will ensure that the stories of Team USA athletes are told in dynamic and engaging ways, inspiring millions worldwide.

NBC’s President of Olympic and Paralympic Partnerships, Dan Lovinger, expressed his excitement about the possibilities that arise from combining innovative technology with premium content. He believes that this collaboration will enhance the viewing experience for fans of all ages.

One of the collaborative efforts, “Explain The Games,” will utilize Google Search’s AI Overviews throughout the coverage. NBC’s stars will explain how viewers can use Google Search’s AI Overviews to find answers to their questions about the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Additionally, actor and comedian Leslie Jones, serving as NBC’s Chief Superfan Commentator, will be involved in the network’s AI revolution. Jones will use Google Gemini to create custom moves or learn new sports.

NBC will also produce social media content featuring five Olympians and Paralympians exploring Paris. These productions will highlight Google Lens, Circle to Search, Immersive View in Google Maps, and Gemini, showcasing their AI-powered features.

Furthermore, NBC will utilize Google Maps’ 3D Tiles to provide viewers with 3D views of the Olympic venues. This is not the first use of AI announced by NBC for the Paris Olympics. In June, the network revealed plans to use AI to recreate legendary commentator Al Michaels’ voice for “Your Daily Olympic Recap on Peacock.”

Using NBC’s Olympic Hub, fans can specify the highlights they want to stay updated on, and custom playlists will be created daily using Michaels’ recreated voice.
