Renowned entertainer Donny Osmond recently expressed his admiration for artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential benefits for recording artists. In an interview with Fox News Digital, the 66-year-old singer discussed the initial fear surrounding new technology and highlighted the positive impact AI can have when used as a tool.
Reflecting on the introduction of digital audio workstations (DAWS) in the 1980s, Osmond acknowledged the initial apprehension towards these tools. However, he pointed out that artists like Bruno Mars, Harry Styles, Dua Lipa, and Justin Bieber have successfully incorporated DAWS into their music, demonstrating the potential of technology when utilized effectively.
Osmond emphasized that AI should be seen as a tool rather than a substitute for human creativity. He expressed his excitement about the prospects of AI, particularly in his role as a producer and artist. The singer, known for his Las Vegas residency at Harrah’s, also revealed plans to incorporate AI into his shows, promising “amazing stuff” in the near future.
Having a passion for technology, Osmond shared his interest in electronics and his previous studies in the field. He expressed his fascination with AI and its potential applications, stating that if he were not a singer, he would likely work for a computer company like Apple.
Osmond’s successful Las Vegas residency, now in its fourth year and extended until 2025, has been praised for its intimate setting and diverse range of performances. The singer highlighted the interactive nature of his shows, where the audience can request songs from his extensive discography, creating a unique experience each night.
Throughout his six-decade-long career, Osmond has continuously reinvented himself, navigating the challenges of transitioning from a teen idol to a respected adult performer. He acknowledged the difficulties of breaking free from the pigeonholing effects of his early success but emphasized the importance of embracing his past while constantly pushing boundaries.
While Osmond and his sister Marie previously had a successful Vegas residency together, he clarified that they currently pursue separate ventures. Despite the occasional sibling rivalry, he expressed his fondness for working with Marie and the professionalism they shared during their time together.
