“CHiPs” Star Erik Estrada Warns of AI’s Dangers and Calls for Responsible Use

“CHiPs” star Erik Estrada has raised concerns about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) while emphasizing the need for responsible use of the technology. In an interview with Fox News Digital, the 75-year-old actor and host of “Divine Renovation” acknowledged the positive aspects of AI but cautioned against its misuse.

Estrada highlighted the issue of deepfakes, which involve the creation of deceptive images, videos, and audio to misrepresent individuals or events. While some deepfakes may be harmless, the technology can be exploited for scams, identity theft, propaganda dissemination, reputation damage, and election manipulation.

The actor, who has personally been targeted by deepfakes, expressed his concern about the potential misuse of AI. He emphasized the importance of using AI for positive purposes, such as creating goodwill, generating employment opportunities, and fostering prosperity.

Estrada also drew attention to the unethical use of AI, citing examples where his likeness has been superimposed on explicit content or falsely endorsing products. He criticized such actions, stating that they are not in line with Christian values and can harm individuals and destroy lives.

While acknowledging that some individuals, including tech mogul Elon Musk, may utilize AI for beneficial purposes, Estrada cautioned that others may exploit it for personal gain. Drawing from his experience as a former police officer and current member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) federal task force, he stressed that bad actors will always take advantage of new technologies.

In his efforts to combat deepfake scammers, Estrada revealed that he is working with law enforcement agencies to bring these individuals to justice. He expressed his determination to protect innocent people from falling victim to scams that exploit his name and likeness on social media platforms.

In addition to his advocacy against AI misuse, Estrada discussed his involvement in the faith-based home improvement reality series, “Divine Renovation.” The show, which aims to make positive changes in communities, follows Estrada as he collaborates with nonprofits, houses of worship, local businesses, and neighbors to improve the homes of families in need.

The second season of “Divine Renovation,” which Estrada described as heartwarming, features segments showcasing the use of service dogs for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and renovations at a shelter for veterans. The show, available for streaming on various platforms, combines entertainment with a spiritual element.

Reflecting on his own life, Estrada shared how his Christian faith helps him overcome challenges. He emphasized the importance of prayer and seeking guidance from God during difficult times.
